Civilisation as a term is used in controversial ways. I would like to leave out "ancient" views as I don't want to distinguish between so-called barbarian and civilised people. Instead, in my understanding, civilisation as a term primarily refers to human cultures that are complex in terms of technology, science, and division of labor. Such civilizations are generally urbanized.
Istanbul is such an urban place, in fact it is one of the biggest and fastest growing urban places in the world. Which makes it at the same time very exciting and difficult to live in. While there are numerous blogs about the phenomenal food, the history, or the incredible number of phantastic sights around, I would like to point my finger more to some of the problems. I am completely aware that this is rather unpopular way to go and it might probably not change so much, but I would hope to raise some discussions and I truly hope to raise some interest in changing some things!
We don't have to wait for the world to change, we can do so much ourselves to make this a better place.
Hence, enough for now .. let's get started with some facts.
